How to Have Productive and Engaging Board Directors Meetings

Board directors play an essential part in the growth of your business. They can provide feedback, support or even make decisions that determine the direction of your business. So, it’s essential to hold engaging and productive board meetings. How do you achieve this?

Start with the Most Important Items

The majority of your board’s meeting needs to be focused on discussing how to implement your organization’s strategies. This is the ideal time to introduce concrete KPI goals, which can be measured and tracked. Examples include net promoter scores, sales and region. This will help ensure that your board members are on the same page as the rest of the company and can work together to achieve shared objectives.

Don’t Get Sidetracked

When they are distracted by new topics for discussion at the board meeting, board members can easily lose track of the most important agenda items. The chair should instead start the meeting with a recap of the most important information to be sought during the meeting. This should include reiterating the important points from the pre-meeting call and the board’s package.

If a new topic is brought up that isn’t important, you can move it to the last item on the agenda, or plan it for an interruption. This will ensure that it isn’t being glossed over and will give a sense that the board is actively open to new ideas and perspectives.
